Myron graduated from South Dakota State University in 1971 with a degree in Animal Science. He started by leasing the Circle Star Registered Hereford Ranch at Farmingdale from an old friend of his Dad’s.
In 1979, Myron leased and then purchased a place southwest of Wall. He is a cow/calf producer and has been a livestock order buyer for over 20 years. His sons have both returned to the ranching/farming operation, Marty in 1996, and Monty in 1998. With their combined efforts, they have built a custom backgrounding lot and expanded the cow herd and haying production.
Myron served as a director for the Central States Fair Board from 1975 to 1978. As a director, he chaired the Central States Fair Rodeo, Team Roping, and Horse Pull committees. Although the CSF Board thought it was too much of a financial risk, Dan Lindbloom, Joe Cox and Myron assisted Jim and Julie Sutton when they launched the first Black Hills Stock Show Rodeo held at the Civic Center in 1978.
He is active in South Dakota Cattlemen, SDSU Steer for State, and chairs the South Dakota Federal Lands Committee. For ten years, he served on the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Federation Division of Beef Councils as Chairman, the Executive Committee, and the Operating Committee. He was a director for US Meat Export Federation for three years. He recently retired from the SD Beef Council after twenty years of service. In 2007, he was appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board.
Myron has served on the Wall School Board, as well as a director for the South Dakota High School Rodeo, South Dakota 4-H Rodeo, Western Junior Livestock Show and Pennington County Farm Bureau.
Myron, and his wife, Mary, are delighted that their sons and daughter have chosen agriculture as their careers: Marty, and his wife Stephanie, and children, Jaicee and Stran; and Monty and his wife, Bobbi, are all a part of the family ranching/farming operation. Misty and her husband, Jeff, live near Kearney, Nebraska. Their dedication and willingness to keep things running in his absence made it possible for Myron to be active in the agricultural industry to the extent he has.
