Public demonstrations & discussion of the farrier trade.

We encourage farriers, ranchers, horse owners horse enthusiasts, and everyone interested in blacksmithing, the farrier trade, or horses to check this out! Professional farriers available to answer questions throughout the workshop.

Watch members of the High Plains Farrier Association build all types of shoes, focusing on shoes for everyday use and performance, shoes for different equine pathologies, and winter traction shoes. Don't miss the eagle eye competition at 4:30pm!

Workshop Schedule

  • 10-11am Forging shoes for everyday us, modifying keg & handmade shoes
  • 11am-12pm Building & modifying shoes for different equine pathologies
  • 12-12:30pm Explanation of shoes made and their purpose
  • 12:30-1:30pm "Common misconceptions of the farrier trade" discussion with Q&A
  • 1:30-2:15pm Live horse shoeing demonstration and discussion
  • 2:15-3:15pm Forging and lecture - "Traction and modifying for traction" with Q&A
  • 3:15-3:45pm Discussion of benefits of the farrier/veterinarian relationships
  • 3:45-4:30pm Open forging and open forum, contest preparation
  • 4:30-5:30pm EAGLE EYE COMPETITION
  • 5:30-6pm Scoring and cleanup
